Life with God

The Eight General Commands of Jesus, the Six Encounter Questions, and a simple way to gather — all in one small guide you can hold in your pocket, use offline, and hand to the next person.

The aim is encountering Jesus and growing in intimacy with God — not head knowledge. (Mt 22:37–38; Jn 17:3; 1 Jn 2:3–6)

“This obedience is always in love.” — George Patterson. Obeying from any other motive slides into legalism. Obedience is our opportunity to tell Jesus, “We love You!”

Be with Him first

Everything flows from loving God. Serving is the overflow — and we keep returning to His presence.

Be with Him first.Seek God for who He is. (Mt 22:37–38; Lk 10:38–42)
Love & serve. The overflow — people, giving, disciples. (Mt 22:39)
Return.Back to His presence, always. (Ac 13:2)

When serving crowds out sitting at His feet, the answer is the return.

The pocket guide

“Life with God” — the whole path, in your hand

One page that holds it all: being with God, the Three Key Verses, the Eight Commands with a story for each, telling your own story, the Lord’s Supper, and the way to gather. Made for your phone, and kept up to date by the ministry.

  • Save it for offline. Open it once, save the page to your device, and it’s yours with no signal — keep it forever.
  • Print it on paper. It prints to A4 — two pages, front and back. Fold it and carry it in a pocket.
  • Share and translate. Pass it to anyone; every copy is complete, and it’s only text — carry it into your heart language too.

A grain of wheat grows a plant with the same potential as its parent. Every copy you give can be given again. From the person who gave this to you.

The Eight General Commands of Jesus

The simple commands of Jesus we obey, and help others obey — always in love. Open one for a Bible story and a way to live it.

1Love God

Mt 22:37; Lk 10:25–28; Lk 10:38–42

Stories

Rich Young Ruler (Mk 10:17–27) · Woman Anointing Jesus’ Feet (Lk 7:36–50)

Live it

Love for God shows many ways — trust, obedience, worship, joy, prayer, gratitude, love for His people, endurance. Give Him unhurried time just to be with Him (a daily time is a common practice, not the command). When serving crowds Him out, return to His feet first — everything flows from here.

2Love Neighbors, Love Enemies, Love Believers

Mt 22:39; Lk 6:27–35; Jn 13:34–35

Stories

Lost Sheep (Lk 15:1–7) · Good Samaritan (Lk 10:25–37) · Believers Share (Ac 4:32–37)

Live it

Meet a need, forgive an offender, serve a believer — as love for Jesus.

3Believe in Jesus, Repent, Receive the Holy Spirit

Jn 3:16; Mk 1:14–15; Jn 20:19–22

Stories

The Father Runs to His Son (Lk 15:11–32) · Woman Caught in Adultery (Jn 8:1–11) · Receive the Spirit (Jn 20:19–22)

Live it

Turn from your own way; trust Jesus; open yourself to the Holy Spirit. Tell someone your story.

4Baptize

Mt 28:19; Ac 8:26–40

Stories

The Great Commission (Mt 28:18–20) · The Ethiopian (Ac 8:26–40)

Live it

Be baptized; help baptize new believers as they turn to Christ.

5Lord’s Supper

Lk 22:14–20; Lk 24:13–35

Stories

The Last Supper (Lk 22:14–20) · The Road to Emmaus (Lk 24:13–35)

Live it

Gather with bread and a cup. Be with Jesus first; give thanks; share His body and blood together, remembering Him.

6Pray in the Name of Jesus

Lk 11:1–13; Jn 14:13–14

Stories

The Pharisee and the Tax Collector (Lk 18:9–14) · The Lord’s Prayer (Mt 6:5–13)

Live it

Talk with God daily as your Father, in Jesus’ name. Pray for people to believe.

7Give Generously

Mk 12:41–44

Stories

The Widow’s Offering (Mk 12:41–44) · Treasures in Heaven (Mt 6:19–24)

Live it

Know a real local need and meet it sacrificially — what we have belongs to God.

8Make Disciples

Mt 28:16–20; Lk 10:1–9, 2 Ti 2:2

Stories

Jesus Sends the 72 (Lk 10:1–12) · The Woman at the Well (Jn 4:7–42)

Live it

Walk one person through this the way someone walked you. Give them their own copy.

We mark the command, not the manner. Baptizing is commanded; public or private, soon or later, is free. We ask of one another only what Christ asks of all.

The Gathering

A simple way to meet — no expert, no building, no paper required.

  • Pray; ask the Holy Spirit to lead.
  • Minister TO the Lord together first — seek God for who He is.
  • Share: What has God shown you? What have you obeyed? Where have you struggled? Who did you share with?
  • Read and retell the story from memory — three rounds.
  • Pause in silence; then the Six Encounter Questions.
  • Live for Him: What will you do to show Jesus you love Him this week? With whom will you share?
  • Pray for strength to love and obey Him; bless each other.

The Six Encounter Questions

Use these with a Bible story, every time you gather. Love Him always comes before Live for Him.

See Him
  • What is God showing us in this story about Himself? What does He care about?
  • What is God showing us about people? How are we like the people in this story?
Love Him
  • What is God saying in this story that encourages me? What is difficult to accept?
  • Is there something you want to say to God right now?
Live for Him
  • How can I show Jesus I love Him?
  • Who can I encourage with this story?

At any point, return to: “What does that show you about the God who’s with you?”

Carry it, and give it away

You don’t work for this. You work with it. Take it, live it, and hand it on.
